iOS 2FA Setup for Websites and Apps

iOS 2FA Setup for Websites and Apps

Feb 15, 2023

Introduction

For added security on supported websites and apps, use Keeper to store two-factor authentication codes. When setting up 2FA on a site or app, Keeper for iOS can serve as your time-based one-time password or “TOTP” generator. This video will review how users can easily add a two-factor verification setup code or secret key from a website or app to a new or existing Keeper record.

Initial Configuration Steps

Before you can utilize this feature, you will first need to perform a few simple configuration steps. From your device’s Settings app, scroll down and select Passwords. Tap Password Options and ensure “AutoFill Passwords” is toggled on. Now select Keeper for both “Allow filling from” and “Set up Verification codes…”. To finish, follow the prompt and be sure to uncheck all other password managers making Keeper your default.

Now you can begin adding 2FA codes to your Keeper records. Some apps will allow an automatic import of a setup code into Keeper, while others you can simply copy and paste a secret key to generate the code. Next I will review these two methods in more detail.

Automatically Import a Setup Code

For apps that allow an automatic import of the setup code into Keeper, follow the app or website setup steps prompting you to link a compatible authentication app to the account.

Since you selected Keeper in your device’s “Passwords” settings as your default for verification code setup, Keeper will automatically open and you can login as normal using your Master Password or biometrics.

A popup will appear asking if you’d like to add the two-factor code to a new or existing record. Make your selection. If you choose to add it to an existing record, select that record from your records list or quickly find it using the search bar. You will see the code has been added to the record. Tap Save and return to the record to copy the code to your clipboard.

Copy a Setup Key

For apps that provide a setup key to paste into Keeper, begin by copying it to your device’s clipboard. Switch to the Keeper app and login as normal using your Master Password or biometrics. Open the corresponding record and tap Edit, then tap Add Two-Factor Code. Once prompted select Enter Setup Key. You can now paste the key into the field provided and tap OK. You will see the code has been added to the record. Tap Save and copy the code to your clipboard. Lastly, return to the app or site to paste the code to complete the setup.

Login with 2FA

Now I will demonstrate how to easily autofill your login credentials and two-factor codes using KeeperFill. When logging in to an app or site, tap the Passwords button that appears above the keyboard to open the matching record with KeeperFill.

Tap the Fill button and your credentials will be autofilled into the corresponding login fields while the two-factor code is simultaneously copied to your clipboard. If the code is not automatically copied, you can simply tap on it once to copy it. As you move through the login screens, paste the code when prompted to successfully login.
